Human beings cant stop travelling as they are social animals. But studies say 5 to 8% of all emissions worldwide,is caused by the tourism industry. When people drive cars, take flights or stay in accommodations, their activity produces greenhouse gases, otherwise known as as carbon dioxide (CO2). The carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases produced as a direct or indirect result of these activities. As Co2 emission is directly related to global warming,it has gained a much bigger importance these days.
Measuring and identifying your carbon footprint
Sustainability is the key for tourism towards future. There are many factors which leads to Sustainability and most importantly, without protecting the environment, future of Tourism is in a crisis. To enable this,we should reduce the carbon footprint .For this its important to know well what kind of carbon footprint we bring in by travelling.
We understand that our business makes an impact on the environment and we wish to have a proper understanding how big is that impact. So its our commitment to measure the carbon footprint which can help us to address how better we can compensate the same with the help of our travelers.
From our side, we have adopted many measures as below to start:
Track and set goals to reduce emissions
Work with local community to develop Community Based Tourism Experiences
Ongoing training for all team members on Sustainability
Raise awareness among partners and customers
Create positive impact by incorporating good practices.
Reducing use of Single Use plastic towards zero
Businesses from all sectors, including tourism, are working hard to protect their operations and supply-chains from the consequences of climate change. As a Sustainable Tour Operator, its our commitment to have actions in place to implement effective steps in carbon management in our daily operations as our contribution to slow down global warming.
Compensating your carbon footprint
Once we know the impact we create by our travelling, the next step is on thinking the alternatives to negate the impact. There are many options nowadays to buy offset credits from compensation schemes to negate the carbon footprint generated from your travel.
One way of compensating CO2 emissionis by investing in tree planting projects such as forest management and reforestation in different parts of the worldBy planting new forests, CO2 is soaked up from the air directly by the trees. As a tree grows, it can consume over 20 kilos of CO2 before releasing enough oxygen (O2) to supply a single person with clean air for two years. Tree planting is a very effective way of compensating carbon footprints and at the same time also improves the environment with fresher air, shadow and fertile land.
Our Company is directly owning a Cardamom plantation with an area of 25 Hectares which protects more than 500 big trees and full green vegetation. We are also into many social projects to support our local community. One major project is our association with a Special School for Mentally Challenged children. We have a strong strategy to empower women entrepreneurs through their Responsible Tourism Projects which are fine tuned by our professionals. Our company also supports many eco conservation projects by incorporating eco tourism programs into our tours.
We sincerely wish to offset the Co2 emissions created by our tours so that we make up the negative impact.Environmental economists estimate that in order for us to be in line with Paris Agreement Objectives we would need a price between €35 and €65 per tonne of CO2 to reach our target. In reality, the price is lower and determined by market supply and demand.Everyone who invests in environmental projects would like it to be most effective and cost-efficient.

However, compensating your full carbon footprint is not the final solution as it threatens our attempts to reduce our emissions. The best solution is to reduce Co2 emissions. So the first priority should be to reduce your own footprint as much as possible, before compensating the remaining share.
The three steps we adopt towards the reduction of Co2 emissions are:
Step 1: Measure and identify our carbon footprint
Step 2: Reduce to minimize our carbon footprint
Step 3: Compensate our remaining carbon footprint
We wish to reiterate that we have an interest and responsibility in taking action and preventing the earth of warming up further. In order to protect the future tourism industry, we are committed to start managing our carbon footprint. We need to stop, or at least slow down, global warming and keep our tourism destinations safe and healthy for local communities and travelers.
We invite you to be a part of our endeavors towards a better planet. It will be our pleasure to advice you in advance on the possible Carbon footprint from a tour you are doing with us.We will also be happy to assist you by advising the possible compensation projects in which you may contribute. You may do it directly or entrust us to do it for you.
