Bikaner is a District in the northwest of the state of Rajasthan in northern India. The city is the administrative headquarters of Bikaner District and Bikaner division. It was formerly the capital of the princely state of Bikaner. The city was founded by RaoBika in 1486 and from its small origins it has developed into the fourth largest city in Rajasthan. Just like Jaipur, Bikaner is called the Green City.
Junagarh Fort, the one fort said to have never been captured. It houses red sandstone and marble palaces like AnupMahal, Ganga Niwas and Rang Mahal; a royal temple called HarMandir, and a museum. The beautiful LalgarhPalace, is a blend of Rajput, Mughal and European architecture. It is has a collection of oil paintings and hunting trophies. Evening visit to Karni Mata Temple, in the Deshnok village, dedicated to the Goddess Durga, said to have performed many miracles. Devi Kund, the royal crematorium, is where you can see some fine cenotaphs (chhatris) erected in the memory of the rulers from the Bikaji dynasty
