Day 01: Arrival Kolkata & Local Sightseeing

Welcome on arrival at Kolkata and transfer to Hotel.  Kolkata is the city of Joy, contrast and culture. Once the capital of British India – now the capital of West Bengal. A visit to Kolkata will bring visitors in touch with a combination of a rich 400 years old heritage, vibrant modern life and different cultures.

Afternoon visit the St. Paul’s Cathedral, the first ‘Episcopal Cathedral Church’ in an oriental country, and the Victoria Memorial also referred to as the Taj of the Raj. This splendid white marble structure was built in memory of Queen Victoria between 1906 and 1921 and was formally inaugurated by the Prince of Wales, who later became King Edward VIII of England. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02: Kolkata

Full day to explore Kolkata. Visit the Mother House – the headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity and the interesting Kalighat Kali Temple – one of the 52 Shakti Peethas in India, devotees from all over the country come to visit this holy temple. In between you can also enjoy a short Tram Ride in the crowded streets of Kolkata. Later visit Howrah bridge. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03:Kolkata – Dibrugarh

Today after breakfast drive to Kolkata airport for onward journey to Dibrugarh. On arrival at Dibrugarh airport, transfer to check into a Heritage Chang Bungalow on arrival. Evening at leisure.

Day 04: Dibrugarh – Mon

Today we will be heading towards the hillsin the home of the Nagas. We will drive to Mon – the land of the Anghs – the Konyaks which is one of the most traditional tribe in Nagaland and still follows the Kingship system.

Day 05: Mon – Day Trip to Longwa Village

After an early breakfast we will drive to Longwa village with packed lunch. True tradition is seen here where people are still not touched by modern ways. Meet village folk, see their way of life.

This is one of the big Konyak villages and on the border ridge between India and Myanmar (Burma). The Angh (king) of Longwa commands about 50 villages from both the side. Return to Mon. Dinner and overnight.

Day 06: Mon – Day Trip to Chui and Hongphui villages

Today we will visit nearby Chui, Hongphui and nearby villages. True tradition is seen here where people are still not touched by modern ways. Meet village folk, see their way of life. Dinner and overnight.

Day 07: Mon – Mokokchung (255 kms / 7 hrs)

After breakfast drive to Mokokchung in the north-central Nagaland. This district is inhabited by the AO Tribe. On reaching Mokokchung we will check into a hotel. Overnight.

Day 08:Mokokchung

After breakfast we drive to visit Mopunchuket and Ugma village, which are well known for its handicraft and wood carving and textile of the Ao tribe.

Day 09:Mokokchung – Touphema (120 km / 5 hrs)

After breakfast we check out from hotel and then drive to Touphema. Enroute we will go through the Rengma villages at Tsemenyiu and the Lotha Naga tribes in Wokha district. On arrival check into neatly appointed huts built in the Angami Naga style. Dinner and Overnight.

Day 10:Touphema – Kohima (41 km / 2 hrs)

After breakfast, visit TouphemaBawe – meaning old village. Later drive on to Kohima. Check into hotel on arrival. Later visit State Museum (closed on Mondays) and local market and emporium for souvenirs and ethnic crafts.

Kohima is perched at an altitude of 1444.12 m above sea level, a pretty hill station, with panoramic views of the rugged Naga Hills. It is unspoilt and replete with interesting things to see and do. It is the land of the Angami Naga tribe, which is one of the major tribe in Nagaland. They are known for terraced wet rice cultivation. Angamis were traditionally warriors, in the past, the Angami men spent majority of their time in warfare with hostile villages and taking heads. Kohima had witnessed the fiercest fighting of the Second World War-a fifty day-and night non-stop slogging match.

Day 11: Kohima – Day trip to Khonoma village

After breakfast, drive to Khonoma village (20 kms/1 hr), a place renowned for its valor and courage. The Khonoma gate tells the story of British infiltration into Naga Hills. Drive back to Kohima and visit the famous war cemetery, a symbolic memorial raised as citation for the supreme sacrifice made by the officers and men of the Allied forces during World War II. Evening at leisure.

Day 12: Kohima – Dimapur (75 km / 2½ hrs) – Kolkata (By Air) -Departure

Today morning after breakfast we check out from hotel. Drive to Dimapur airport for your onward journey to Kolkata. On arrival, check into a hotel. On arrival check into hotel in Kolkata. You may opt for short walks in the streets of Kolkata.Later transfer to NSCB Airport to connect your flight home.

Entry formalities (for foreign nationals):

Nagaland: The entry formalities/travel restrictions have been relaxed for foreigners to the states of Nagaland, initially for a period of one year (2011) and have been extended for another 02 years i.e. 2012 and 2013. However, all foreigners visiting these States will have to register themselves with the Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) of the District they visit within 24 hours of their arrival.

We will keep you posted in case anything changes in the entry formalities.

Entry formalities (for Indian nationals):

Nagaland: Please note that all Indian nationals need Inner Line Permit (ILP) to visit Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.

The following documents are required for the permit and we need at least 3–4 working days to process the same after we receive these documents:

1) Full name, age and address

2) 4 passport size photographs

3) Photo Identity proof (Passport/ driving license)

4) Police Station

5) Post Office

• The duration mentioned in the itinerary may not be precise; it is the time that can be expected when strictly driving, depending on the present road conditions. Otherwise, the journey is conducted in such a way that we always stop midway for visiting villages, markets, photography, major landmarks of importance or interest depending on the client’s interest.
